Though it doesn't quite match recent classics like Kabhi khushi kabhie gham in sheer technique and production sheen, in-depth star casting and thorough entertainment values make this a must-see for Bollywatchers.

Veer-Zaara is so arresting, its scenes so full of beauty and colors, that the three hours go by almost too fast.
For once, that thundering soap-opera music (which makes a Douglas Sirk movie score seem subtle) is welcome; it drowns out any embarrassing audience sniffles.
Director Yash Chopra manages to fight several culture wars while milking the melodrama.
Veer Zaara has a great storyline with some unpredictable twists and emotions, keeping you engrossed throughout.
It's Chopra's ability to extract raw emotion from his two marvellous leads that impresses most of all.
Bollywood forbidden love tale with song, dance, drama.
Though Chopra's film is emotionally extravagant even by the standards of India's epically unrestrained cinema, the star-crossed lovers bear the weighty metaphorical significance of their travails surprisingly lightly.
