Dragon Age 4 Speculations! Created by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts, “Dragon Age” a fantasy role-playing game, was first released in November 2009. The first installment, titled “ Dragon Age: Origins ” was soon followed by the second entry, “Dragon Age II” which came out in March 2011.

Mass Effect might have been put on ice and all recent attention diverted to Anthem, but BioWare still has a long plan for its Dragon Age franchise.

Dragon Age boss Mike Laidlaw told a fan on Twitter his team already had ideas for a 'theoretical' Dragon Age 5.

'There is no planned ending for DA,' Laidlaw said, in response to a question asking if the fantasy role-playing series once had a set conclusion.

'There is an evolving plan that tends to look two games ahead or so.'

This long-planned focus is evident in the games themselves. Dragon Age Inquisition's Big Bad Corypheus was first featured in Dragon Age 2 DLC. Meanwhile, Inquisition's excellent epilogue DLC Trespasser amply set up the forthcoming Dragon Age 4.

'Thus, I could tell you what -could- be in a theoretical game five,' Laidlaw continued, 'if there were a theoretical game four happening.'

BioWare and EA have yet to formally announce Dragon Age 4 (which will likely be named something different when finally revealed), though it is an open secret the core Dragon Age team within BioWare have been working on the series' next project for some time.

Eurogamer previously chatted about this next Dragon Age project with one of its writers, Alexis Kennedy, of Sunless Sea fame. He didn't say the words Dragon Age 4 - but then he didn't really need to.

It's reassuring to know BioWare has plans for the future of Dragon Age, after the rocky year the company has faced so far. Mass Effect Andromeda launched in March to underwhelming reviews. Last month, BioWare's Montreal studio was formerly closed and its staff transferred elsewhere within EA. And while another Dragon Age is widely anticipated, BioWare has its head down on big new IP Anthem. Anthem is not due until next year, so it's unlikely we'll see the next Dragon Age until 2019.

All of which means that story plans may well be changed, as new ideas surface. 'I strongly believe that if you try to hold to a rigid plan that is a decade old by the time you reach the end, you are wasting ops,' Laidlaw concluded.

Let's hope we see the next Dragon Age sooner rather than later.

Dragon Age 4 is official, although we imagine it is a few years until we finally get our hands on it. Revealed at The Game Awards 2018, Bioware graced us with a brief teaser trailer and a new hashtag in the form of #TheDreadWolfRises.

This indicates the return of a recognisable character and plenty of potential consequences in the wondrous world of Dragon Age. With Bioware presumably hard at work on pushing Anthem out of the door this February, the time will soon come for us to finally delve into Dragon Age once again.

Dragon Age 4 wishlist – Things we’d love to see

A bigger and more ambitious world

Dragon Age: Inquisition was certainly no slouch in terms of scope. In many ways, it was absolutely huge and filled with surprising new characters and monsters just waiting to be dominated. That being said, we could see Bioware pushing the boat out even further with an even more ambitious universe.

It’ll also be nice to see less repetition in the environments, too. Inquisition kept you in the Hinterlands for far too long that it encumbered the overall pacing. Dragon Age 4 should strive for a bigger sense of variety across its landscape with terrain and creatures we simply won’t see coming.

Increased number of specialisations

This would make combat and character customisation far more interesting, encouraging us to experiment with different play styles that force us to conjure up different strategies while thinking outside the box.

Some ideas that immediately come to mind include the Templar, Rogue, Assassin and more. Fans have already expressed their passion for such an addition, showcasing so much potential for new abilities and aesthetic ideas that could really help you stand out.

Resolve the Inquisition cliffhanger

We won’t spoil any specifics here because it’s better to experience it for yourself, but we desperately want Dragon Age 4 to resolve plot threads left hanging by its predecessor.

The Solas storyline, in particular, hides plenty of secrets we’re eager to uncover and could lead to plenty of intriguing situations in the sequel.

A deeper connection with our party members

The relationship between our virtual friends has always been one of the biggest strengths in Bioware titles. You’ll not only become battle-hardened comrades but even form romantic relationships with characters of your choice. We’d like this to mean more instead of merely concluding in a soft-core sex scene.

Additional dialogue choices and quests deepening relationships once you reach a certain threshold would be amazing to see. Perhaps this could result in new rewards in the form of equipment and abilities otherwise unattainable. It’d encourage replay value while also making our decisions feel meaningful.
